Ysa Ferrer is an ufo in the french musical landscape. A singer apart, perfectionist, with electro-pop sounds and esthetic visuals. Writer, composer and singer, she is often regarded as the French “Kylie Minogue”.
From Oran, Ysa Ferrer left very early Algeria and moved with her parents in the region of Chambery in France. Studies, first jobs (in a local radio station), she has, then, one thing in mind : to make her dreams a reality. Early 90s, direction Paris. Following an audition, she landed the lead role in a series that made the heydays of France 2 (SECONDE B). A bit of cinema (L627 of Tavernier), and finally the song : two albums were released with Universal (D'ESSENCES NATURELLES, then KAMIKAZE containing the hit single MES RÊVES). The adventure can begin...
"So far, what motivated me to write or compose a song, remembers Ysa, it was a desire, almost visceral, to seduce." She pauses, seems to think, before proceeding. "A desire to seduce and also to succeed in this middle of crazy. I took a lot of blows but every time I got up, and I kept on fighting."
Perfectionist, Ysa Ferrer starts the 2000s by getting rid of the heavy and slow structure of a record company. Now producer (through her label Lovarium Production), she gives to her musical career a new impulse, gets the rights of all her tracks and makes them known to the international level. Quickly, her cover of the song EDERLEZI of Goran Bregovic, then her single MADE IN JAPAN become hits in Eastern Europe, especially in Sweden and Russia (up to 200.000 radio-broadcastings !).
"Being known abroad is something strange. Of course it's enjoyable to fill a stadium or coming as special guest on TV shows as the prestigious Russians Music Awards. But however, you get frustrated not to succeed more into your own country. In fact, I've never stopped to think about France."
In 2008, Ysa comes back on french radios with two singles that will immediately be ranked at the top (TO BI OR NOT TO BI and ON FAIT L'AMOUR produced by JUNIOR CALDERA). At the same time, she releases a third album, IMAGINAIRE PUR, and gives three sold out concerts in Paris (La Nouvelle Eve, then LE BATACLAN). Two other singles will be taken from the album IMAGINAIRE PUR : SENS INTERDIT (which will remain ranked in the top during 17 weeks) and LAST ZOOM which will benefit a hyper-aesthetic music video co-directed by the photographer Slam and explosive remixes by DAVE AUDÉ (Beyoncé, Pussycat Dolls...).
"After the release of my previous album and its unexpected success in the eastern countries in particular, I decided to work harder than ever. The last two years have been intense, productive and full of emotions. I've notably been able to put a face on people who listen to my songs. I saw how much we looked alike. Very quickly, I wanted to meet them again..."
Of this desire will born the project ULTRA FERRER, a fourth album at the crossroads between pop with licked lyrics, poignant ballads and electro sounds with unstoppable production. The production of FRENCH KISS, the first extract thought for the dancefloors, is immediately assigned to CHEW FU (Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Usher...).
"Being Ultra is to go to the whole way. In the slight, as in seriously. The album title came after a working session with my team. I wanted to push the sliders as far as possible. Working on drum loops and samples very effective. For me, this album had to go beyond what I usually do. Some kind of "Ultra Ferrer" ! I also liked the fact that this title can be understood in all languages. Regarding FRENCH KISS, its electric side and its hypnotic power, allowed him to emerge as the first single."
Concerning the music, Ysa Ferrer remained faithful to a style that does not really have equivalent in France.
"This is not a purely electronic album, even if it's more up-tempo. This is neither a hyper-light album. The 'dance' packing could let suggests that I only think to party, but I'm much more harried than we think."
After sold-out concerts success at Bobino and the Alhambra, Ysa Ferrer decided to put on her cheerleader costume to defend this new track during a marathon tour of the biggest clubs. And nothing was left to chance: a dozen remixes were produced by the biggest DJs to ignite french and foreigns dancefloors. |
